Part-time
employees can work shorter workdays all or part of a week, fewer full days each week or a combination. Below are two sets of examples of part-time schedules.
Exempt Employees: The first example shows options for exempt
employees, those employees who are not eligible for overtime. Please be aware that work schedules for exempt
employees are expressed as a percentage of the total job, and not as a set number of hours. Therefore, our examples describe a variety of part-time schedules by percentage of the total work per day. Of course, these examples are only some of the schedules that are possible. Non-Exempt Employees: The second example shows part-time
scheduling options for non-exempt employees, those employees who are
eligible for overtime. Because their schedules are based on standard
workweeks, the samples are shown in hours on this chart. It is important
that the design of any part-time schedule not create what amounts to unplanned
overtime in the case of overtime-eligible roles unless prior approval
has been received from Human Resources and line management.
