Flexibility:  Leadership Messages

People carry many myths about production, such as “There’s really no way to have any flexibility on the line.” One of the things that appeals to our leadership about this new flexibility initiative is that it is built around a very flexible process. It doesn’t exclude a lot of positions or people from participation. What it does do is set a good high bar on improved productivity that needs to be identified in good proposals.

We are encouraging our managers and our people to focus on what’s desirable and possible – and to collaborate so they can achieve those things. We have already seen individual proposals from some of our “office jobs” get approved and we have had line supervisors say “yes” to unusual scheduling arrangements. As we strengthen this approach, we believe that Our Company will benefit from the reputation of being a flexible place to work.
